  1. Pretty cool - I see that in my future!

    Side finish

I'd be concerned with color stability (UV stability), moisture absorption, resistance to stains, permits, etc. with outdoor use...what does the specification say? Do you need sheating behind the Hardie? http://www.dupont.com/content/dam/dupont/tools-tactics/bi/surfaces-technical-library/documents/north-america/K-27409_Colorfastness_and_exterior_use_of_Corian.pdf http://www.thekitchenthink.co.uk/taking-the-plunge-with-outdoor-kitchens/?doing_wp_cron=1473460803.2637910842895507812500
  3. Have to decide before the build what material you will use for the counter top - or, just do it right and get granite! PS. Doesn't really matter - there is no "fixed" height for a counter top. In reality, what drives the counter top height, is determined by how you install the fridge, scroll down. http://www.bbqsource-forums.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=10204
  4. Look for L-shaped islands and see how they do the bar section...leave the BBQ and side counter tops at the same level...looks better imo. This one is similar to yours: https://www.google.com/search?q=l+shaped+bbq+island&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj4lNj7r4PPAhVJKGMKHWSyDw4Q_AUICSgC&biw=1680&bih=933#imgrc=zIuxVKq8nktIKM%3A https://www.google.com/search?q=l+shaped+bbq+island&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj4lNj7r4PPAhVJKGMKHWSyDw4Q_AUICSgC&biw=1680&bih=933#imgrc=bN8x0KkeVWugeM%3A

Just nice to know where the studs are when you attach the durock / wire mesh on the sides, but you could mark them too....

    New Build

My outdoor kitchen build got delayed by two years, cause I bough a boat, and had to wait. Here is the final product... Still need to add some type of finish to the counter top side, not sure if I'm going to do stucco, or tile. 20AWG Steel Framing Dedicated cement footing for the outdoor kitchen. 1/2" Durock on the SIDES + scratch coat, and stucco. 1/2" Hardi on the TOP - + Brazilian Granite.
  7. I'll do the 20"...can still cut it by hand, and it's hella strong.
  8. Depends on the cement board....hardi backer, don't let it get wet, durock, go right ahead. If you look at the board, it will be obvious....hardi has cardboard like fiber in it.

Where to buy metal studs in NC?

Find a local building supply company for 20 AWG....

    My build

Looking good...mine is on hold, bought a boat!
  13. How thick is that granite? Underpayment is 1/2" durock? What was your cost on the granite? What do you call that granite, looks like what I have in mind. Does it get very hot?
  14. Wow, can't beat that price...I'm way past that, no end in site!!
