I'd be concerned with color stability (UV stability), moisture absorption, resistance to stains, permits, etc. with outdoor use...what does the specification say? Do you need sheating behind the Hardie?

I built mine 17 years ago. I installed the HB directly onto the steel studs then applied a single coat of stucco after preparing the HB with Concrete Glue. It still looks new today. I used tinted stucco, no paint.

Hardi makes a board with a stucco finish. you could go with that and just paint it. I think the corian would discolor in the UV light outdoors. It is a polymer and might also start to bubble and deform.
