Grill won't heat up past 575

Ok, so I've had my E-320 since May and after numerous uses, the temperature never goes above 575 no matter how long I let the grill heat up. It will take generally about 10 - 15 minutes to get to 500, then it will take another 10 minutes or so while it creeps its way towards 575. I think I remember seeing folks say they've gotten their grill up to over 700. This is my 4th tank this year so I think we can probably rule out the tank. What kind of tests can I do to see if there is an issue with my grill? I'm thinking to call Weber but I figured I'd check with the experts first. :lol:

You should call Weber

What is it that you cant cook at 575?

You are cooking with the top down right?

Did you double check the temps with an oven thermometer to be sure? Seen some of the temp guages on the lids not reading correctly....so you may want to double check with a good oven thermometer...

575 is the max temp for your grill. Nothing wrong with it.

my first heatup I noticed my grill going to about 525 max but may just be I am not waiting long enough.

 

Anyway, when I read through some of the heat issue threads, someone posted to take the thermometer out, and temp some boiling water with it to see if it reads that accurately. sounds like a sound idea unless someone else has a better one.

I was able to hit just over 700 on my S-320 (natural gas) after about 20 minutes of warm-up. No idea if the the temp guage in the hood is accurate or not.

Not sure if NG make it get hotter but my EP-310 gets to 550°. I would check you temp gage.

I noticed that my S-320 grill doesn't get as hot as it did when it was new. My hood temp never really goes above 550 though when new I was able to push it closer to 600. I will say that I've never had a problem searing steak and cooking on high heat and I do agree with Ronald who said, "What is it that you cant cook at 575?" I don't yet have thermometer to put on the grate to get that temp but the 550 hood temp seems to work fine as a high temp. Though I would like to my temps to 700+ I definitely don't need any hotter than what I am getting.

 

Also, Weber makes an interesting observation in their owner's manual and that is -- "The temperature inside your cooking box for the first few uses, while surfaces are still very reflective, may be hotter than those shown in your cookbook." The OM also says that "Preheating to between 500° and 550° F (260° and 290° C) will take 10 to 15 minutes depending on conditions such as air temperature and wind." My guess is that it is Weber's intention not to get the Genesis too much hotter and that explains the gaps around the sides and back of the cookbox.

Thanks everyone for the reponses.

 

Just to clarify a few points.

 

- The Knobs are at the right spot, i.e. 9pm

- I don't have a good oven thermometer, holding out for my b-day next week <_<

- I am cooking with the top down

- My first tank was about 2/3 used up the first time I used the grill. I've gone through 2 full tanks so far and this is my 3rd full tank.

- Not really concerned about not being able to cook at those temps, but I am concerned that it takes that long. Many folks on here mention 10 minutes to get that high but I take about double that.

 

Anyone ever removed the hood guage? Any issues putting it back on? Just want to make sure it's not like those kids toys you can't put back in the box to bring home from Grandma and Grandpa's house at Christmas. :ph34r:
