Has anyone seen the program "License to Grill"?

Its on Discovery Home Channel, and hosted by Rob Rainford. The show is out of Canada, and he uses Napoleon Grills (the grill with the wavey grates).

He was originally from Jamaica, and his grilling and side dishes reflect this. The show is fast paced, intersting, and provides useful (and practical) tips. I watched a show Saturday where he grilled pork tenderloin .... I ran out to the store and bought two pork tenderloins and grilled them up on Sunday.

On another show he grilled salmon burgers, which he made starting with salmon filets ... they looked really good, and I've put them on my list to try.

Billy Goat,

I've watched and recorded him for quite some time now (couple of years, at least), his show is great, lots of energy and enthusiasm. We had a thread going just a few days ago on his guests, who they are and how nice it is to get all this terrific, grilled food from Bob. I think I have about two dozen of his shows on my DVR, along with BBQ University and Barbecue America, my three favorite shows! Mike

I DVR his show every time its on. I then transfer them to a DVD. I've got 13 DVD's of his show with about 4 shows a piece on a DVD. I love this show alot. I've done soooo many of the things that he does on that show. What do yall think of his new house? Looks like he's got more space now but I liked his old place better. I watch "Boy Meets Grill" too (Bobby Flay) and I'll do searches with my DVR and find "one time" shows that have been good too.

I haven't heard of "Boy Meets Grill" before. Did a search on my Cablevision and couldn't find anything in the next week. Can you give any airtimes, channel broadcasts, etc.? I'd love to check it out. Pant! Pant!

Thanks for the info. Looked through the past shows and recipes. Lots of good ideas. I will try some of them out this week end. Too bad I traveling a lot now. Can only grill on weekends ;)

I'm always looking for side dishes to prepare on the grill to go with the main course.

Here's you a side I do alot.

Ingredients:

* 1 1/2 pouch baking potatoes

* 1 x large white onion, sliced

* 2 x tbsp butter (30 ml)

* 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (125 ml)

* 1/2 cup parmesan, grated (125 ml)

* 1 x tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped (15 ml)

* 1 x tbsp fresh thyme, chopped (15 ml)

* 1/2 cup whipping cream (125 ml)

* Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

* Salt to taste

Directions:

Creamy BBQed Scalloped Taters

1. Cut the potatoes into -inch thick slices. Slice onion thinly. Place butter in a saucepan over low to heat to melt.

2. On a 24-inch square of heavy-duty aluminium foil, arrange half of the potatoes and half the onion in a single layer (potatoes underneath and onions on top). Brush the layer generously with melted butter and season with salt and pepper.

3. Spread the layer with cottage cheese, and then sprinkle the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses. Add the remaining onions. Sprinkle freshly chopped rosemary and thyme on top of the onions. Add the last layer of potatoes and brush with more butter.

4. Fold the foil over and seal 2 of the edges together with a double fold. Pour in the cream and seal the foil closed.

5. Preheat the barbecue to medium-high heat 350F/175C. Place the potato package directly over the heat source and cook for 25-30 minutes.

6. Serve as a scrumptious side dish.

Mike, "Boy Meets Grill" is on the Food Network Channel. I don't know what you have for cable. I use Directv Sat. and it's channel 231. He's coming on today, tomorrow and Thurs. at 11am. That's my goal too and depending on the sides and meats. it can be a real challenge. For something simple, I sometimes just slice a potato about 1/4 inch thick and grill it with some EVOO and then sometimes garilc powder, sometimes some cayenne, and in either case top with a cheeze of your choice or sprinkle with parmesean. Or I've added some chopped green onion tops to the cheese too. It has an advantage of being relatively quick to do so timing works pretty well. And it's versatile enough that you can be creative too. I've also just wrapped some veggies in foil like baby carrots in butter. Then add some honey at the end and sprinkle some ginger or cinnamon when serving; whatever your preference. Of course for presentation, some parsley adds the green color.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out when I get home. I couldn't access the forums yesterday for the most part, kept getting a message saying the database was no good. Hmmmmm.

I think I'm out of luck with Boy Meets Grill, some things carried on SAT are not available on Cablevision. When I switched from my dish back to cable last year, I lost a lot of favorites, including the DIY channel (sigh).

I work for a company thats contracted as a official installer for Directv. They have offices all in the SE (5 states) and they are the largest single contractor Directv has. Thats how I have it (Free by the way, :blink: ). The biggest problem was with locals for years but they've been getting locals up in most places now. We got them 2 yrs ago. I got that same message with the forum too yesterday. Not sure what that was. I'm doing better from my hospital stay last week, getting more back to normal, and I think I'm gonna be able to get out in the heat today and do some pork chops on the grill. I gotta go get them marinated. Talk to yall soon. Hope you are staying cooler than we are, 101 today.

Glad to hear you're on the way to recovery! I'm envious of that "free" tv, we pay around here! :blink:

I really enjoy this show, and I have recorded it every time. My only problem is that I wish he would cook more down to earth food instead of the fancy stuff he cooks. I have learned a lot from the shows I have watched.

And now single handed he's going to cool the the world! Small chore for a man that created a common link for over 4 billion people, huh? Hee hee!

Anyway, welcome, glad to hear from you. License is also a favorite of mine, he cracks me up. He's got a lot vibrant personality, I'd love to be his neighbor! His menus may be over the top sometimes, but they always leave me hungering for the final meal. I enjoy the passion he brings to the table, certainly no show is ever boring!

Welcome Old Goat! We've got a lot of old goats around here - me included! Fortunately most of us have wives that more than make up up for our ugliness ;)

I have my Tivo set for first run only, and it hasn't recorded License to Grill in many weeks - maybe I need to change the settings - I too enjoy his show.
