I cannot speak to that specific model, but a teammate of our bought a similar unit from Costco last year and has no complaints. He admits it doesn't taste a good as our pit, but I wonder what the results would be if we did a blind taste test.

philryder:

I looked at the smokers at Cabelas and Gander Mountain, but then came upon the BBQ Grillware 20K BTU LP verticle smoker at Lowes. Click to view attachment The kids just ordered one for me as an anniversary present ... and it will be in wednesday.

Here is a link on Lowes website ... http://www.lowescreativeideas.com/0606/shop_smart/

Good luck with your hunt for a smoker.

Billy Goat,

So, you got the tabletop AND the smoker! I guess that was a VERY successful walk through Lowes a couple of weeks ago! laugh.gif Hoping to get one, walk out with none, and wind up with both! Congratulations! Nice anniversary gift! You are one lucky guy! Mike

Mike:

Yep, I sure am! Had all the kids home this weekend, with their significant others ... Celebrated my daughter's 23rd birthday and our 30th wedding anniversary, and cooked alot with the family!

My future son-in-law has taken a real interest in cooking and grilling. When we have a cook-out, he always arrives early so he can grill the meat. He did a fine job on the steaks today, he took everyone's order, and perfectly grilled 3 medium, 2 medium rare and 3 rare steaks. We had two friend that were no-shows ... so I've got two NY Strips I may cook on the new mini-grill, when I take my wife on that picnic I have planned.

I may be old, I may be ugly .... but I sure am happy and lucky!

I have a similar smoker from Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3342513 not SS but has held up well for 2 yrs and a lot cheaper. They have a larger model for $30 more that I wish I had gotten. Overall the smoker works very well and you can get a deep smoke from it but the small smoker box requires frequent changes. Cleanup isn't too bad but the door has a lip that holds grease and requires some effort, I burn the grates and the water pan clean on the gas grill. Constuction isn't bad for the price but it may not hold up well if you move it a lot or use it as a portable. Mine has stayed in the same spot for nearly 2 years and is still solid. I will soon end up with a barrel smoker or one with an offset wood box but I bought this one because I could set it up and after 1 or 2 wood chip changs leave it for the rest of the day and trust the temp to remain stable, good lazy mans smoker.
Good luck

I just got my BBQ Grillware Verticle Smoker yesterday.Click to view attachment
Have not used it yet [will on Saturday] ...

On the up side:

- Price @ $99
- Sound steel plate construction, powder coated
- 4 Adjustable SS racks and SS water tray
- Plenty of room
- Hooks to hang meats
- Large steel smoke tray
- Adjustable LP brass burner

On the down side:

- Had to bolt on legs and handles
- No cover

I'll post more once I season the smoker and try it on Saturday. I am going to smoke some "bullets" ... the "Jimmy Dean" type breakfast sausage (in the plastic tube) ... you smoke them whole ... I've never done it, but I've eaten them Hmmmmmmm.

Billy Goat,

Congratulations! A door opens into a new world! It's gonna be fun, but you're gonna miss all those innovative experiments on the grill trying to turn it into a smoker! rolleyes.gif

howufiga ...

You're right ... Lowe's does not have on their website any longer. Guess its been discontinued. sad.gif

I got mine in September '07 for $99.00 ... [and love it! wink.gif] ... and had to ask the Store Manager to special order it. You might want to call a Lowe's and ask the manager to see if there are any left in the warehouse.

have you looked at the verticle smoker @ Walmart.com?

Yes, I was looking at this one.

And this one from the Home Depot.

Does The Great Outdoors have a website? I want to compare the 2 models.
