I would like to know has anybody else had reactions to seafood and if Benadryl cleared the problem while enjoying seafood? My reactions a getting worse but would like to enjoy grilled shrimp again. My biggest fear is my throat is going to swell shut just like when we came back from a fishing trip from Belmar, Nj. Any opinions.

My son developed allergies to shellfish after going on a seafood binge while on a diet one time. He had to be very careful of every dish he ordered in restaurants from that day forward, in case they put shellfish in a specific dish and didn't list it on the menu. He still complains about not being able to eat shellfish but has learned his lesson. You might want to see an allergist to get confirmation.

I'd talk to the Doc on that one. My cousin developed a reaction to seafood after eating seafood in the Baltimore area all his life. It is actually the iodine in the seafood and certain types have more. If I were you I wouldn't eat any more seafood until I consulted a Doctor who could enlighten you about your allergies. You really want to be carefull with a shellfish allergy.
You should see a doctor asap.
One of the things that affects the allergy is how the shellfish is prepared.
Another issue is where the shellfish came from. There is fresh water, brackish water , ocean salt water , bay saltwater etc.
There is also a country component. For example I wont eat any shellfish or any other fish from China. There water tends to be a little contaminated with toxins of all types.
A third thing to verify is that it is really a shellfish allergy and not shellfish food poisoning. When you get ahold of bad shellfish it can have similar symptoms

Thanks, I'm pretty sure its a food allergy due to its seems to be progressing more. It started years ago with severe gut pains no I'm noticing a tightness in my throat and its a little hard to swallow. I know to watch where I eat. I got french fries at a fire company after somebody got crab cakes reaction within 10 mins. Land luber food it is..
