Help me please. I have a new 3 burner Red and it won't heat past 400. I've done the low flame exercise multiple times. I've also confirmed that there is no yellow flame from the burners. Additionally, it appears as though the controls are adjusting the flame properly. I set the controls to pre-heat for over 20 minutes. mad.gif

Bob,

Welcome to the Source!

First - are you sure the gauge is working properly? Did you cook anything yet and ascertained you are not getting hot enough to cook properly? Try using a surface thermometer and measure the temps at the grates.

I am assuming you are referring to the hood temperature gauge. Your cooking grate temps will be much higher.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but check to make sure your propane source is opened all the way, there have been cases where people think if they opened the valve a little they don't use as much propane, just a thought, durango kid rolleyes.gif

...both good ideas and both were tried prior to my original post. Cooking temp was confirmed with some chicken breasts that took far too long to cook.

I have found that my RED is sensitive to tank pressure. I can get about 50 to even 100 degrees more during the pre-heat on a full tank than on a nearly empty one. So even if you've reset your overflow valve you might want to try a new tank.

Also, a leak which vents even a small amount of pressure can cause this.

I assume that all three flames look about the same, right? How about the side burner? If that flame is full but the main three are low, then the problem is likely near the valve manifold. If even the side burner is low then the problem is closer to the regulator or the tank itself.

Hope you find the problem quickly.

The OP doesn't visit these forums anymore, but I though I'd share my experience with the RED.

I purchased the 3 Burner Red from Home Depot earlier this year, the model # is 466250509.

On a good (warm/not so windy day), I could barely get it to heat up to 350F, after 20 mins lid-closed.

On a windy day, it won't get past 250F.

I have tried with different LP tanks, followed the instructions to make sure I didn't trip the safety, nothing helped.

Made a call to CharBroil support, tried a few things, and they ended up sending me the whole hose/valve/regulator (1 piece) under warranty. Pretty good customer service.

The part arrived in a few days and it was installed. However, that didn't correct the problem neither. I was stumped, and ended up paying Home Depot $40 to have them pick it up for a return. (After it was assembled, it no longer fit in my car).

I was extremely disappointed with my experience, given the good review it has received by Consumer Reports. Either I never understood how to operate it, or I got unlucky with a defective unit. But I guess I wasn't the only one, seeing there are a couple people who have complained the same situation here already. *shrug*
