Full Version: Can a stand alone be converted in built-in?

I'm looking into buying a Brinkman Pro Elite 6668 and converting it into a built-in into my outdoor kitchen.
Is this possible? Can any stand alone be converted into a built in?
I've had a Weber, that I left in New York, that I had for 7 years, uncovered, and it fired up everytime we used it, which was at least once a week all year long. I hated to leave it but we are making a completely new start down here in Fla.
I'm building an outdoor kitchen with granite tops and a built-in would work/look the best.
Thanks in advance.

I honestly do not see why not. I did a similar thing with a JennAir 4 burner unit... removed the wheels, left side shelf and the right side burner, and built the unit into a block unit containing the grill, a fireplace and countertops. I just made sure to use some of the decorative blocks in the back to provide adequate ventilation for the "box".

The only warning that I got from anyone was to not do it because the propane tank would sit under the fire box... HELLO? Doesn't the propane tank sit under the fire box on 99% of all freestanding grills? That didn't make sense or even cause concern to me. I simply added enough of the decorative blocks to allow airflow under the fire box...

Thanks. That's what I thought.
Your setup looks terrific!!! I'd love to have room for a setup like that. My wife wants me to minimize the kitchen as much as possible.

Thanks! It was a good project to tackle... we're trying to get the back yard done (new house)... I wanted to add a sink and a refrigerator, I got overridden by the boss. However, she bought me a 4.4 cf stainless refrigerator for use in the garage or the patio, as I choose. In the winter it goes in the garage... in the summer it's going to the patio...

Good luck with your project... please post the photos when you get it done!

I'm planning to do the same with the current 4 burner Jenn Air grill, but the wheels are now on the side. Do you think the same can be done. If so, will ventilation be enough directly through the back of the island? Thanks for the info in advance.
