Have found a good way to clean the exterior of stainless steel grills. When it gets that brownish tone from cooking, use Awesome which I got at one of those dollar stores. Since we have stainless steel in the kitchen, my wife had bought at Sam’s a stainless steel cleaner and polish. I use this after I have used the Awesome. Makes it look like a new grill outside; however, the inside looks used!!!!

Hi,

I've been using a product called Stainless Steel Magic and it works great. It's an all in one cleaner and polisher and is non-abrasive. I brought it from a local appliance store where I got my grill from. It works great but nearer the heating hood i find a little discoloration. They have a website called magicamerican.com how this helps somebody too. Kid

I forgot to add that it cost $6.99 a can which I find expensive probably because I live in a small town with limited stores. Kid

Found in most grocery stores by the other cleaners

Cheap; works really well

+1 on barkeepers friend. Bon Ami doesn't work half as well.

Hey everyone - new to the boards.

Just bought a new Broil King Sovereign XLS 90 on the weekend. Loving it so far.

Anyway - thanks for the tip on BKF - is it available in Canada? I'll have a look around.

Quick question... upon my first fire-up, like an idiot I didn't take the racks out. They yellowed a little bit and I did take them out and the warming grill after about 10 mins as I had realized my mistake and turned the Q off. After they had cooled I washed them as instructed (not that it may have done any good at that point) and re-fired the BBQ. Is this anything serious to worry about?

I've grilled twice already and haven't noticed anything taste-wise or smoke-wise of any concern, so I probably have nothing to worry about but I thought I'd ask you pros.

As for the grill - I did a lot of homework before I bought it and am happy with my choice so far.

Thanks for reading!

Barkeeper's Friend is OK (I use it for copper pots, mostly). I prefer Powdered Brewery Wash from 5-Star chemicals.

It was designed for cleaning 304 stainless -- and it's ok on all stainless surfaces, including the grates. Soak your grates in it overnight then simply rinse them off. Easy.

You can find it at any homebrew supply shop, and online. Not cheap, but a little goes a long way. I was using a dilution of 16 oz. of powder to 200 gallons of water at the brewery.

I go for the SS magic. it is mostly mineral oil. The part i like it leaves a oil residue which lets food easy removed in the future. It just rubs off, while BKF needs elbow grease.

Another + for the Barkeepers Friend. I use it on everything, including my boat!

A home cleaner for copper, ketchup.

Click to view attachmentI first washed the SS down on my Weber S450 with hot water and Dawn dish liquid. It cleaned a little, but not what I was looking for. Remembered my wife had bought something a while back for the SS appliances, I pulled the stuff out ( well actually I got her to get it for me ) and gave it a try. It worked great. I was concerned about taking the "brushed" look out of it, as I had done polishing aluminum stuff on my snowmobiles, but it left it just like new. It's called Siege Stainless Steel & Aluminum powder cleaner. ( siegechemical.com ) I soaped everything up with the dish liquid and water, sprinkled some powder on a cloth and wiped with the grain. Took off all the brown staining and as I worked my way up the cover I could see a film of grease coming off on areas that I though was clean.

Here's a picture of the cleaned grill. It had been brown from the handle down on the cover and around the vents on the control panel. Dish liquid and hot water wouldn't touch it.

Note: The vertical lines are light and me reflecting in the stainless - not streaks

I have the Genesis EP-320, I see BKF should be a good cleaner for the SS parts but does anybody have any advice on what I should clean the porcelain enameled hood with?
