I am planning to custom build a smoker to enable me to handle ribs for large events. The last four years I have been kept busy bbqing large amounts of chicken for fund raisers. Now I have been asked to include ribs for some events. I have a 15 ft long stainless vat from a cheesehouse that I want to convert to a smoker. I would like to put a rotisserie unit in it but I have no idea where to begin looking for something like that. I will fabricate the smoker to fit the rotisserie but does anyone know where I can shop for the rotisserie?

Thanks,

A friend of mine found a transmission from a used machine and tool place. With an electric motor driving a belt to the transmission, another belt drives the rotisserie. The transmission has 6 speeds, though my friend normally only uses 2 of the 6. I don’t recall the exact speed of rotation, but would guess about 5 turns a minute when roasting a whole pig.

Be sure to post some pictures as you start building.

Thanks Eric,

I will put some pictures up when I begin to build it. What I am looking for is the actual rotisserie. I know how I am going to drive it. I have a hog roaster with a geared down spit. About 1 turn every minute. I plan to turn this the same way. What I am now looking for is stainless shelves for the meat. The inside of the unit. Like a 4 or 5 tray unit. If I am unable to locate one I may not build one but instead look at a commercial unit.
Thanks for the input,

Hi Chickenhaves,

Sorry man, I have no idea where to find the shelves you are looking for. I hoped that someone else here would have some ideas. Do you need to have the shelves removable. Will they be used to to serve the meat?

Hey Eric

No they will only be used to cook the meat. Something large enough for hogs but removeable would be very handy for cleaning.
