I have a Weber EP-320 with the stainless steel rod grates, should I use a stainless steel or bass brush?

I was contemplating buying the Weber heavy duty brush with the stainless steel bristles. Is this suitable for my grate type?

http://www.amazon.com/Weber-6448-Style-Hea...0352&sr=8-1

Thanks,

Thanks,

I use a brass on my SS grates but I don't think it really matters, SS grates are bullet proof
thats a neeto brush but for 29 bucks Id pass, its going to cake up and you'll throw it out just like you would an 8 dollar brush.
go to the hardware store and grab any bbq brush and you'll be alright with stainless, take the 20 bucks you saved and by some nice rib eye's wink.gif

Cool, thanks for the advice. With such a major investment, I just wanted to make sure I took top notch care of the grill and I was willing to pay a bit extra for a brush if that was appropriate but good to know that either brush type is sufficient.

Ross you purchased a Weber if the grates take a dump they will give you new ones wink.gif You would have to work pretty hard to damage those grates and 30 bucks for a brush that says "Weber" on it is silly if you ask me because you will end up throwing the brush away unless every time you use it the grates are "ashed" any BBQ sauce or meat fat or un cooked crap will clog the brush and it will just plain wear down, now if you can find a nice hat, tee shirt or blazer that says Weber grab that it will last you longer..........

but dont get me wrong its just SS grates are impervious to your brush unlike other types of grates

Four years late I'm still on my Lowes $4.99 special! Brass "t" shaped brush, about 6" across the bristles and works like a charm (with steamed water).

Could you descibe your cleaning technique further?
You said with steamed water but being a newbie I wasn't to sure what the exact process is?

Thanks,

Never buying overpriced brush ross

Easy. I keep a squirt bottle handy near my grill (always). Once the grates are heated on high for a bit, I just spray water on them with my left hand, meanwhile scrubbing them with the brass brush held in my right hand. The water turns to steam as soon as it hits the hot grates, which facilitates removing any heavy or stubborn grunge left by either sauces, greasy meats, etc. Takes just a minute or less - several swipes and Presto - grunge be gone!

The squirt bottle of water also comes in handy when you get the occasional flareup - puts it down real quick!

HD has a "cheap" version of this brush in brass for $6-8:

I was going to get the SS weber version till I saw the brass for less.

That's the same one I bought at Lowes. I bought two of them in the fall a couple of years ago in a close out sale for $4.99 each. May be cheap - but I'm still using the first one which is still in great condition. The bristles don't break off or bend down. I'm starting season three with the same one, so it looks like the second one I bought can stay in storage another season or two. I use this pretty much every time I grill, 2-3 swipes at a time. I'd say I have gotten my money's worth! The Angus Double Burger Big Meal I bought for lunch today for the same price is already gone.... laugh.gif laugh.gif

i get my brass brush from my local Princess Auto (sort of an everything store), but i believe they sell them at plumbers stores etc for around $5.

i keep a big plastic cup under the bbq, fill it with water after cooking. heat up the grill for 5min, dip brush, scrub away, clean as new.

i just did a search and found my thread that i started when i first joined. pretty much same question and you can see the brush i purchased in it: BRASS BRUSH

i love my brush, lasted the whole year, and not you've reminded me that i should go buy a new one for this year.

Supposedly, this brush is now made with stainless steel instead of brass. Same goes for the T-shaped brush mentioned above. At least according to the reviewers on Amazon.

Hi All,

I am a newbie. Just got my EP-320 and after two uses its sad to see how dirty she gets so quickly. I guess that is bound to happen. Anyway, I have the SS grates too and though I read that I must use brass but then I confirmed that to be cast iron grates only.

So, just to confirm SS or brass brush is OK for the SS grill grates?

Thanks for the steam cleaning method I will try that.

Also, I know my SS grates don't need seasoning like CI grate, but I initially rubbed a little Ooil on it to keep them lubbed. It appears the oil burnt onto the grates and now they all look not new, used, orangy. I do now 304 SS discoulours when heated and not to expect my Q to look new for long but did I do a boo-boo oiling the new grill before I heated it up?

yes or a stainless brush if you use a metal brush the little pieces that come off the brush will rust and you will have little flakes of rust on the grates, they wont hurt your SS grates you will just have little flakes of rust on your grates wink.gif
