So, a couple of weeks ago we picked up a Char Broil RED model 463250509...I purchased this knowing it would only last around 5 years max. This is something my other half has been begging to pick up for over a year, so I figured I'd make her happy and take her to pick one up. She didn't like the idea of $650 on a weber, so we settled on $400 max to spend, and when whatever we purchased dies, we'll get a weber....So, after reading a few reviews online about grills, we settled on the Charbroil RED. Took it home, put it together, fired it up, made a few burgers on it, not too bad.

While we were cooking I noticed it never really got over 400 degrees. It was getting late and I figured I'd play around with it the next day after work...Well nothing worked...even called Char Broil, nothing would help it get over 450-500 max. So, I returned it to HD, and explained my problem to them, they let me have the floor model which was just put together, and they took $50 off. Not bad, get it home yesterday, SAME problem!

Sooo, I'm going to call Char Broil one more time tomorrow after I get done with work...and if there is no solution, I am going to return it and pick up a Genesis I guess. I have always believed you get what you pay for, but figured this would be good for at least 3-5 years! Oh well! This did seem like a good idea, you didn't have to worry flare ups at all!

Ok, talked to char broil and they told me to make sure the burners weren't clogged (even though it's brand new) and that they'd send me a new regulator...being impatient I ran out and picked up a cheap new hose for $20, just to see if this would work. Hooked it up today and it did get a little hotter. The temperature on the grills was reading close to 600 after about 25 minutes, the hood was around 450.

I really don't know what to do now!

Should I keep it or bring it back!?

Chris
(thanks in advance for any advice!)

So just got off the phone again with Charbroil, got a good rep this time, and she was looking for a way to remedy this problem with this grill. After being put on hold for a couple minutes (not too bad) She told me that this grill is known to have issues with it's orifices. So they're going to replace my orifices...(mind in the gutter). I really do hope this fixes the heating issue with this grill. All I want is 3-5 years out of this thing.

Can anyone tell me what orifices are on a grill?

Thanks in advance!

Returned the second Charbroil, not gonna wait for the orifices to come in; Had enough of this game! Did like the promise the grill showed, but just didn't trust Charbroil and the fix.

Ended up buying a Weber Genesis, Shot up to 600 in less than 10 minutes.

We wanted to like this grill! We really did!

Sorry to hear about all the problems. There's really no excuse for this - since the RED is distributed more or less exclusively through Home Depot in the US, they should be able to get an updated set of orifices to every store for each unit in stock to be installed when the grill is assembled.

Good luck with the Weber!

Thats what I asked the store when I returned the first one. They said they were not aware of any problems with this model.

What bothered me most was that the sales tag with the price, that also has the model number listed...it ended in 10, which means I was paying for a 2010 model. Both units serial tags had model numbers that ended in 09...2009 models.

It bothered me some that the store saw no problem with this.

Oh well, I have never really been a huge fan of HD anyway.

Hopefully the Weber will live up to its price.
