Greetings All,

I'm new to this forum. I hope everyone will be patient with my elementary questions.

I'm using a Weber Q which I've had for about a year and I'm very happy with.

Unfortunately, recently, I cleaned the grill and now, for some reason, all my meat seems to be sticking to the grill. I prepair the grill be heating it up and then applying a thin layer of oil with a paper towel. This has done a good job for me in the past, however, for some reason, my meat is sticking and for the life of me, I don't understand why.

Any help would be appreciated.

Let’s see if we can figure out your sticking problem. First, let me ask you a few questions. What cut of meats are sticking? What type of oil are you using? What type of grate does your Weber have, wire, or cast iron? How much preheat before placing the meat on the grill?

If you have cast iron grates you may have to re-season them after heavy cleaning. This would involve oiling them down with lard or even bacon grease, bake at 250 to 300º F for at least an hour. Don’t use vegetable oils. These will turn gummy and sticky.

Sorry to take over the thread for a second or two but it is related to your subject. What kind of oils should I grease my Coated Cast Iron grates after preheating for 10 minutes? I've been using Vegetable Oil w/ Paper Towel. That makes it gummy? Also, how often should I toss them in the dish washer?

Also, you may need to reseason your grates.

I'm using a cast iron grill. I've been using vegetable oil. The sticking is with both top grade meats and hamburger.

I guess my core question should be, what is the proper way to season a cast iron grill and what should I use? I have been using Easy Off to clean the grill. Then, I heat the grill up and then apply the oil just before I add the meat.

This is for everyone that has sticking problems with their case iron grates. Here is a very good link on seasoning cast iron pans. It works on the the grates too. Seasoning

Using vegetable oil was the mistake I made for years. I always had bad luck with seasoning. I would end up with a gummy sticky mess that everything would stick to. Once I washed everything down with hot soapy water with a scouring pad and reseasoned with bacon greese, I really have a true nonstick surface. Hope this helps!
