I have two sides when i light up the BBQ which means low one side or if i light both sides its on high heat??But what i could do with is help as i have a lid that shuts down also? Do i heat it up full ist with the lid down and then whack on the meat etc , or do i heat it up with the lid up on half and then put the meat on? Also when its starting to get hot do i put the meat in and then shut the lid to get the intence heat oR do i keep the lid closed all the time it is cooking? Also Guys do i put Burgers or Sausages on Frozen or do i defrost them and then cook them as they all seem to fall apart the Ist time i done them?? Also How do i stop the burgers / sausages from sticking when i go to pick them up they are all stuck to my utensils.?? I know its only a gas bbq but i really struggleto cook on it and any help would be appreciated.

Dano,

Welcome to the BBQ Source Forums. To help you out here lets start with a little more directed questions and answers if you don't mind. What type and make/model grill are you using? When you say "first time Gas Barbecue eser", does this mean it's the first time cooking on a grill or just first time with gas?

Normally, the lid is closed during cooking. The sticking issue has a lot to do with the type of grill you are using. Once you let us know what type of grill you have we can give you more to the point answers. No, you don't want to try and cook things frozen, this takes away your control over doneness and can cause things to stick badly to the grate.

As much as everyone here will do their best to help you out with grilling, if this is really the first you have ever grilled, you would do yourself a big favor to purchase one of many very good grilling cookbooks on the market. They have great ideas on how to start off and the basics to becoming a great grilling master. It really is a lot of fun and family and friends will enjoy what you make.

Regards,

Eric , Thanks mate for the advice. this may sound daft but what is a grill and a grate!! Here in UK they only have small Gas Barbecues with what we call a Grill the metal part that you put the food on is the grill , but i dont know what you mean by a grate? Generally i just but the two burners on and slap the fod on the grill to cook it under the burners ? Sorry for being stupid here but thats what we do just heatit up mand put the burgers / sausages / etc etc under the Gas Flames. The type of grill here in UK is probably a lot smaller than over in the USA as we only do it seldom and its only a two little burners each side which you can light with just one side on or both sides lit for full , as simple as that.

Wow!! what you describe is not a bbq grill in the US. If you look in other sections and topics on this forum there are lots of pictures of what a BBQ grill looks like in the US. Not all of them have to be as the one in the pictures on this forum.. Many are very small and can fit on a table top.

From you description, it sounds like you have a broiler, heat on top.
Normally this will not work for grilling, where the intense heat is generated under the meat to sear it fast and lock the juice in. Searing on the bottom of meat such as hambuger also makes the bottom more solid,
therefore easier to pickup and handle.

ALso while broiling, The item that is broiled, normally sit in a pan, not directly in contact with the grate (the metal rack), whereas in grilling the meat directly on the grate, and the flames/heat is directly under the meat.
Anyway, based on your description of your unit, I don't think it was designed for grilling (bbq is a term we use for slow cooking with low heat)

Dano, Welcome to the world of outside cooking. My first question would be, "are you certain that you have the grill right side up" ( Just a little American humor)

Dano,

Glad to here you had a little bit of luck with you bbq/grilling unit. It would be very interesting if you have a chance to upload here a picture of the unit you are using. All I know is the grills we have here in the states. It would be nice to see what your side of the world likes to cook on.

Thanks!
